At WASSER FÜR WASSER, new ideas are born—and they arise in a cycle.
Whether in conscious consumption, practical training or infrastructure maintenance, there are no traditional donors or recipients in this cycle of impact. Ecological decisions, financial resources and practical expertise circulate constantly between the three countries. Local action in one place creates direct solutions in another and everyone learns from each other in the process.
When partner establishments in the Swiss catering industry or in SAC huts at over 2,600 metres above sea level consciously serve local tap water, something tangible happens: revenue that flows directly into the development of professional structures in southern Africa – for example, into practical vocational training. The result is not a one-sided transfer, but the starting signal for local value creation, which in turn enriches our educational work in Switzerland.
In Zambia, it is clear to see how this expertise is changing the system: a sanitation maintenance team made up of young graduates from WASSER FÜR WASSER repaired defective pipes and stopped massive daily water losses. The young professionals not only gained valuable work experience, but also improved hygiene and safety for patients and staff.These experiences flow seamlessly into Mozambique, where they are adapted to local conditions. In a co-creative approach, we work with schools and institutions to analyse where hand washing facilities are lacking or water tanks are defective. Together with aspiring plumbers, we develop solutions that can be maintained independently in the long term. And this is where the circle closes: what is created in these school programmes in Mozambique flows back to the North – and is currently being further developed for Swiss schools.
A cycle in which successes developed step by step are shared and everyone bears responsibility together.
